Washington wildfire tax relief: Key deadlines extended to February 1, 2027
The IRS has extended many federal tax deadlines to February 1, 2027, for eligible individuals and businesses in covered disaster areas. The covered locations include Chelan, Ferry, Okanogan, Spokane, Stevens, and Yakima counties, along with the Confederated Tribes and Bands of the Yakama Nation, the Confederated Tribes of the Colville Reservation, and the Spokane Tribe of Indians.
Relief is available if:
- You live in a covered area.
- Your business or nonprofit organization is located in a covered area.
- The records you need to meet a tax deadline are located in a covered area, even if you are not.
What does the relief cover?
For qualifying taxpayers, many federal tax returns and tax payments, including 2025 tax returns with a valid extension, due on or after July 31, 2026, and before February 1, 2027, may now be completed by February 1, 2027. This includes individual and business income tax returns, partnership and S corporation returns, estate and trust returns, and certain estimated tax payments.
Some deadlines are not automatically extended. For example, many information returns and payroll or excise tax deposits remain subject to their usual rules. Please contact us if you have questions about if a particular filing or payment has been postponed.
